Winter Weather Returns To Oklahoma

SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORMAN OK 350 PM CST WED DEC 19 2007

...WINTER WEATHER RETURNS TO THE SOUTHERN PLAINS SATURDAY...THE SOUTHERN PLAINS WILL SEE MILD WEATHER THROUGH FRIDAY...WITH HIGH TEMPERATURES IN THE 50S AND 60S. WINTRY WEATHER WILL RETURN VERY SUDDENLY...HOWEVER...ON FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY.

A STRONG COLD FRONT WILL ENTER NORTHWEST OKLAHOMA SHORTLY AFTER SUNSET FRIDAY EVENING...REACHING NORTH TEXAS AND SOUTHEAST OKLAHOMA BY SATURDAYMORNING. BEHIND THE FRONT...TEMPERATURES WILL FALL INTO THE 20S AND30S...AND NORTH WINDS OF 20 TO 30 MPH WILL PRODUCE WIND CHILLS IN THE TEENS AND LOW 20S. THE BLUSTERY WEATHER WILL PERSIST THROUGH THE DAY ON SATURDAY...AS TEMPERATURES HOLD STEADY OR EVEN FALL A FEW MORE DEGREES DURING THE DAY.

WHILE EVERYONE WILL SEE THE ONSET OF COLD AND WINDY CONDITIONS...MUCH OF NORTHERN OKLAHOMA IS ALSO EXPECTED TO RECEIVE SNOW. LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW WILL DEVELOP IN NORTHWEST OKLAHOMA SATURDAY MORNING...AND MOVE EAST DURING THE DAY. THE WEATHER SYSTEM WILL MOVE FAIRLY QUICKLY...AND THIS WILL LIMIT TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATION.

AT THIS TIME...IT APPEARS ONE TO THREE INCHES OF SNOW IS POSSIBLE...GENERALLY 40 MILES EITHER SIDE OF A LINE FROM CHEYENNE TO ENID AND PONCA CITY. THE MAIN HAZARD FROM THIS STORM WILL LIKELY BE THE COMBINATION OF FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW...WHICH MAY SEVERELY REDUCE VISIBILITY...AT LEAST LOCALLY.

LIGHT SNOW...WITH LITTLE OR NO ACCUMULATION...MAY EXTEND SOUTHWARD INTO CENTRAL AND SOUTHWEST OKLAHOMA...AND A SMALL PART OF WESTERN NORTH TEXAS. SNOW WILL END FROM WEST TO EAST DURING THE LATE AFTERNOON. ANYONE PLANNING TO TRAVEL OR SPEND TIME OUTDOORS ON SATURDAY SHOULD REMAIN ALERT TO THE LATEST FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS.
