NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DES MOINES IA
1044 AM CST SUN DEC 9 2007
...ACTIVE WINTER WEATHER TO CONTINUE ACROSS IOWA...
.UPPER LEVEL LOW PRESSURE WILL MOVE THROUGH THE REGION THIS

SOUTHERN IOWA. AFTER A BRIEF BREAK...ANOTHER STORM SYSTEM WILL
IMPACT THE REGION MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR
SIGNIFICANT SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN ACCUMULATIONS.

A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS
AFTERNOON. A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY
EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY AFTERNOON.
A WINTRY MIX OF SNOW AND SLEET...AND PERHAPS SOME FREEZING RAIN...
WILL IMPACT SOUTHERN IOWA THIS AFTERNOON. SLEET AND SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS OF A FEW TENTHS OF AN INCH ARE POSSIBLE...ALONG WITH
VERY LIGHT FREEZING RAIN AMOUNTS. PERIODS OF FREEZING DRIZZLE ARE
ALSO EXPECTED...ESPECIALLY LATE THIS AFTERNOON. THE BEST CHANCE
FOR FREEZING PRECIPITATION WILL BE SOUTHEAST OF A LAMONI TO OTTUMWA
LINE. ALTHOUGH TOTAL PRECIPITATION AMOUNTS WILL BE
LIGHT...ACCUMULATIONS WILL BE ENOUGH TO CREATE SLICK ROAD
CONDITIONS. MOTORISTS SHOULD ALSO BE PREPARED FOR WINDSHIELD
ICING.
LOOKING AHEAD TO MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY...THERE IS THE
POTENTIAL FOR A MIXTURE OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN TO PRODUCE
DANGEROUS AND DAMAGING ICE ACCUMULATIONS. THERE IS STILL SOME
UNCERTAINTY WITH THE EXACT PLACEMENT OF THE HEAVIEST
PRECIPITATION ASSOCIATED WITH THIS LATEST SURGE OF MOISTURE
RIDING OVER THE ARCTIC AIRMASS THAT HAS HELD IOWA IN ITS GRIP THE
PAST COUPLE OF DAYS. HOWEVER...IT DOES APPEAR THAT THE FARTHER
SOUTH ONE GOES IN CENTRAL IOWA...THE GREATER THE CHANCE OF
EXPERIENCING THE HEAVY ICE ACCUMULATIONS. AROUND ONE INCH OF
SLEET AND UP TO ONE THIRD INCH OF FREEZING RAIN ACCRUAL IS
POSSIBLE IN THE WATCH AREA.
A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY MEANS THAT PERIODS OF SNOW...SLEET...
FREEZING RAIN...AND FREEZING DRIZZLE WILL CAUSE TRAVEL
DIFFICULTIES. BE PREPARED FOR SLIPPERY ROADS AND LIMITED
VISIBILITIES...AND USE CAUTION WHILE DRIVING.
A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL.

...WINTRY PRECIPITATION COMING TO AN END THIS AFTERNOON...HOWEVER ANOTHER
ROUND OF FREEZING RAIN HEADED OUR WAY MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY...
A LARGE UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM OVER THE SOUTHWEST UNITED STATES
CONTINUES TO SEND PERIODIC DISTURBANCES TOWARDS EASTERN KANSAS
AND MISSOURI. THE LATEST DISTURBANCE HAS SHIFTED THE BULK OF THE
ACCUMULATION PRECIPITATION OUT OF THE REGION EXCEPT FOR LOCATIONS
SOUTH OF A MOUND CITY KANSAS TO MOBERLY LINE WHICH COULD STILL SEE
ADDITIONAL MINOR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THIS AFTERNOON.
ATTENTION WILL THEN TURN TOWARDS MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY WHEN THE
PRIMARY UPPER SYSTEM OVER THE SOUTHWEST UNITED STATES FINALLY BEING S
TO MOVE EAST...SENDING THE LARGEST PART OF ENERGY TOWARDS EASTERN
KANSAS AND MISSOURI FOR LATE MONDAY AND ALL OF TUESDAY. AS A RESULT
ANOTHER SIGNIFICANT ICE STORM IS POSSIBLE WITH THE POTENTIAL FOR
DAMAGING ACCUMULATIONS OF ICE.

PATCHY LIGHT SNOW IS POSSIBLE ACROSS FAR NORTHWEST MISSOURI AND
NORTHEAST KANSAS WHILE A POCKET OR TWO OF SLEET OR FREEZING DRIZZLE
COULD STILL OCCUR OVER THE REST OF NORTHERN AND WEST CENTRAL MISSOURI
THIS AFTERNOON. ONLY TRACE AMOUNTS ARE EXPECTED IF ANY PRECIPITATION
FALLS.
FREEZING RAIN IS ONCE AGAIN EXPECTED TO DEVELOP BY MONDAY
EVENING...AN CONTINUE THROUGH TUESDAY. ADDITIONAL SIGNIFICANT
ACCUMULATIONS OF ICE FROM ONE HALF TO ONE INCH IS POSSIBLE WITH
THE POTENTIAL FOR ACCUMULATIONS EXCEEDING ONE INCH. THIS STORM
SYSTEM HAS THE POTENTIAL TO PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO TREES
AND POWER LINES.
