...WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH
SATURDAY MORNING...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORMAN HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM
WATCH...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY
MORNING.
SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTHWEST OKLAHOMA
FRIDAY MORNING WHILE A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE OVER
CENTRAL AND WESTERN OKLAHOMA. THE RAIN IN CENTRAL AND WESTERN
OKLAHOMA WILL CHANGE OVER TO ALL SNOW FRIDAY EVENING. WHILE THERE
COULD BE A BRIEF PERIOD OF FREEZING RAIN OR SLEET... MOST OF
WINTER PRECIPITATION FROM THIS STORM SHOULD BE IN THE FORM OF
SNOW. SNOWFALL AMOUNTS IN EXCESS OF 4 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE
ACROSS PARTS OF WEST CENTRAL AND NORTH CENTRAL OKLAHOMA... WITH 2
TO 4 INCHES LIKELY OVER THE REMAINDER OF THE WATCH AREA.
THE ONGOING EFFORT TO REPAIR THE DAMAGED ELECTRICAL POWER GRID
COULD BE IMPACTED BY THE UPCOMING WINTER WEATHER. WHILE HEAVY
ICING IS NOT EXPECTED WITH THIS STORM... A WET SNOWFALL COULD ADD
MORE WEIGHT TO DAMAGED POWERLINES. MEANWHILE... NORTH WINDS WILL
INCREASE OVER THE AREA FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY TO 15 TO 25
MPH. AREAS STILL WITHOUT POWER BY LATE FRIDAY MAY EXPERIENCE ADDITIONAL DELAYS IN POWER RESTORATION OVER THE WEEKEND DUE TO THE WINTER WEATHER.
THOSE USING GENERATORS FOR A TEMPORARY POWER SUPPLY SHOULD
EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION TO INSURE THAT THE DEVICE IS LOCATED
OUTDOORS AND AWAY FROM ANY POSSIBLE LOCATION WHERE OUTSIDE AIR
COULD ENTER THE BUILDING.
ALTHOUGH CONFIDENCE IS INCREASING THAT SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALLS WILL
OCCUR OVER PARTS OF NORTHERN... WESTERN AND CENTRAL OKLAHOMA...
THERE IS STILL CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY CONCERNING THE EXACT TRACK
THE HEAVIEST SNOWFALL WILL TAKE.
A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW ACCUMULATIONS. CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.
