NWS and EOC Extended Forecast

WINTER STORM OUTLOOK FOR FRIDAY AND SATURDAY...

Significant snow is expected across parts of Oklahoma and western north Texas Friday and Saturday.

As clean up efforts continue in the wake of a major ice storm...another winter storm appears to have its sights on the southern plains. This winter system is currently located several hundred miles off the Pacific Northwest coast. By lateThursday...the winter storm is expected to intensify as it moves across the southwestern states. Another storm system on Thursday will move quickly across the northern plains and Great Lakes states. Much colder air behind this system will push southward into the central and southern plains just in time for the approaching system from the west.

Current indications are snow will begin to develop across western Oklahoma by Friday afternoon. The precipitation may start as a cold rain but is expected to change quickly to snow. The snow will continue to spread east during the early evening hours and snow will continue to fall for most of the overnight hours. By early Saturday morning the main storm system is expected to be over central Oklahoma and the snow will gradually end from west to east during the morning and early afternoon.

The speed of the storm is relatively fast and this should limit snowfall totals. However...it still appears that parts of western...northern and central Oklahoma may receive four or more inches of snow. Lighter amounts are expected across western north Texas and southern Oklahoma.

Monitor NOAA Weather Radio...the National Weather Service Norman website and television and radio for the latest information on this developing winter storm.
