...WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT...
A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT.
THERE IS THE POTENTIAL FOR MODERATE TO LOCALLY HEAVY SNOWFALL...
ALONG WITH BLOWING SNOW...OVER THE EASTERN HALF OF IOWA SATURDAY
AFTERNOON AND SATURDAY NIGHT. A COMBINATION OF LIGHT RAIN OR
LIGHT SNOW IS EXPECTED TO CHANGE OVER TO ALL SNOW DURING THE
AFTERNOON HOURS. THE SNOW MAY BECOME HEAVY TOWARD SUNSET OVER
SOUTHEAST IOWA BEFORE ENDING DURING THE EVENING WITH THE
POTENTIAL FOR SNOW TOTALS IN THE WATCH AREA FROM TWO TO SIX
INCHES...WITH HIGHEST AMOUNTS SOUTHEAST.
WIND BLOWN SNOW MAY BE MORE OF A PROBLEM THAN AMOUNTS HOWEVER.
WINDS WILL BECOME NORTHWEST AND GUSTY SATURDAY AFTERNOON AND
EVENING WITH BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW POSSIBLE. WIND GUSTS MAY
EXCEED 30 MPH AT TIMES PRODUCING NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS...
VISIBILITY BELOW ONE HALF MILE...DURING THE PERIODS OF HEAVIER
SNOW. ALTHOUGH THE SNOW SHOULD DECREASE IN INTENSITY OVERNIGHT OR
END ALTOGETHER...BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW MAY CONTINUE SATURDAY
NIGHT WITH LITTLE CHANGE IN THE WIND ANTICIPATED.
A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...SLEET...OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT MAY IMPACT TRAVEL WITH
SNOW AND WIND BEING THE MAIN HAZARDS IN THIS INSTANCE. CONTINUE
TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS FOR UPDATED INFORMATION.

SMALL/MOYER
...STRONG WINTER STORM TO IMPACT REGION SATURDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...
.A RAPIDLY DEEPENING LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM OVER OKLAHOMA SATURDAY
MORNING WILL REACH NORTHERN WISCONSIN BY SUNDAY MORNING. THE
SYSTEM WILL INTERACT WITH ABUNDANT MOISTURE FROM THE GULF OF
MEXICO PRODUCING A LARGE SWATH OF RAIN OVER THE MID-MISSISSIPPI
VALLEY SATURDAY MORNING. THE RAIN WILL CHANGE TO A MIXTURE OF
SLEET...SNOW AND SOME BRIEF FREEZING RAIN BEFORE CHANGING TO ALL
SNOW DURING THE AFTERNOON AND EARLY EVENING AS VERY COLD AIR FROM
THE NORTHERN PLAINS MOVES IN. SNOW WIDESPREAD AMOUNTS OF 3 TO 8
INCHES ARE POSSIBLE BY LATE SATURDAY NIGHT. WHILE IT IS TOO EARLY
TO DETERMINE THE EXACT PLACEMENT OF THE HEAVIEST SNOW
BAND...SHOULD THIS STORM INTENSIFY MORE RAPIDLY THAN
ANTICIPATED...A NARROW BAND OF SIGNIFICANTLY HIGHER ACCUMULATIONS
IS POSSIBLE. SUNDAY MORNING TEMPERATURES IN THE TEENS AND
NORTHWEST WINDS UP TO 40 MPH WILL CREATE DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND
CHILLS. THE STRONG WINDS WILL ALSO CAUSE CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND
DRIFTING SNOW...POSSIBLY CREATING NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS AT
TIMES SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING.

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY AFTERNOON
THROUGH LATE SATURDAY NIGHT.
RAIN WILL CHANGE TO A MIXTURE OF SLEET...SNOW AND SOME BRIEF
FREEZING RAIN BEFORE CHANGING TO ALL SNOW DURING THE AFTERNOON WEST
OF INTERSTATE 380...AND AROUND DUSK SATURDAY EVENING ALONG AND
EAST OF THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER. RAPID SNOW ACCUMULATION IS
EXPECTED. THUNDER SNOW WILL BE POSSIBLE AT TIMES. IN
ADDITION...NORTHWEST WINDS OF 25 TO 40 MPH AND RAPIDLY FALLING
TEMPERATURES INTO THE TEENS BY MIDNIGHT SATURDAY WILL RESULT IN
DANGEROUSLY LOW WIND CHILL VALUES AND EXTENDED PERIODS OF LOW
VISIBILITY DUE TO BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. NEAR BLIZZARD
CONDITIONS WILL BE POSSIBLE AT TIMES.
SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 3 TO 8 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE IN THE WATCH AREA.
MINOR ICE ACCUMULATIONS ARE ALSO POSSIBLE BEFORE THE PRECIPITATION
CHANGES TO ALL SNOW. HOWEVER...SNOWFALL AND ICE AMOUNTS WILL BE
GREATLY DEPENDENT ON HOW SOON THE RAIN CHANGES TO ICE AND THEN TO
SNOW.
A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT
SNOW...SLEET ...AND/OR ICE ACCUMULATIONS THAT WOULD SERIOUSLY
IMPACT TRAVEL. MONITOR LATER FORECASTS FOR UPDATES.
