Tornado And Storm Assesments From Tuesday's Outbreak

This is dreadful! The thoughts and info provided to me from a friend who
lives in Iowa. He's right! I live in Florida, and we are two months ahead
of the Mid West when it comes to tornado season. Florida does get tornados
throughout the year for various reasons.

Well, as Michelle sent earlier the death toll is now 56 after a series of
tornadoes
ripped through the south. It is really the beginning of severe weather
season down
there but at the same time we continue to get snow which state weather
officials
now say could go clear through March. Feb. and March are the main time for
tornadoes
in the deep south then moving north in our direction as we hit April and
May.

PUBLIC INFORMATION STATEMENT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE JACKSON MS
425 PM CST WED FEB 6 2008
...SIGNIFICANT SEVERE WEATHER IMPACTED THE ARKLAMISS REGION TUESDAY
AND TUESDAY NIGHT...
A MAJOR OUTBREAK OF TORNADOES AND SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IMPACTED MUCH
OF THE SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES TUESDAY AND TUESDAY NIGHT. WHILE
THE ARKLAMISS REGION LUCKILY ESCAPED THE DEVASTATING DAMAGE AND
CASUALTIES THAT OCCURRED IN OTHER NEARBY AREAS...SIGNIFICANT SEVERE
WEATHER DID STILL IMPACT PARTS OF THE REGION.
INITIAL SUPERCELL THUNDERSTORMS MOVED ACROSS THE DELTA REGION OF
SOUTHEAST ARKANSAS...NORTHEAST LOUISIANA...AND NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI
DURING THE MID AND LATE AFTERNOON HOURS TUESDAY. HAIL UP TO THE SIZE
OF SOFTBALLS CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE ALONG THE STORMS PATH THROUGH
ASHLEY AND CHICOT COUNTIES IN ARKANSAS...AND BOLIVAR COUNTY IN
NORTHWEST MISSISSIPPI. AN NWS STORM SURVEY TEAM IS CURRENTLY
INVESTIGATING THE PATH OF THIS SUPERCELL STORM...AND HAS CONFIRMED
AT LEAST ONE EF-1 TORNADO JUST SOUTH OF THE TOWN OF HAMBURG IN
ASHLEY COUNTY. ADDITIONAL UPDATES WILL BE PROVIDED FROM THIS TEAM AS
THEY ARE RECEIVED.
ADDITIONAL SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS OCCURRED ACROSS THE REGION DURING
THE LATE EVENING AND OVERNIGHT HOURS AS A STRONG COLD FRONT MOVED
INTO THE REGION. THE MOST INTENSE ACTIVITY OCCURRED ACROSS NORTHEAST
LOUISIANA AND WEST CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI BETWEEN 9 PM AND 1 AM...AND
THEN OVER NORTHEAST AND EAST CENTRAL MISSISSIPPI BETWEEN 1 AM AND 4
AM. SEVERAL OF THESE STORMS EXHIBITED STRONG ROTATION. MOST OF
THESE STORMS WENT THROUGH VERY RURAL AREAS...BUT REPORTS OF DOWNED
TREES AND POWERLINES HAVE BEEN RECEIVED TODAY FROM ALONG THE PATHS
OF A FEW OF THESE STORMS. NWS STORM SURVEY TEAMS WILL BE WORKING IN
THESE AREAS OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS TO DETERMINE IF TORNADOES
OCCURRED WITH SOME OF THESE STORMS...AND IF TORNADOES WERE
RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPORTED DAMAGE.
