...BLIZZARD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS AFTERNOON...
...WIND CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST
WEDNESDAY...
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DES MOINES HAS ISSUED A BLIZZARD
WARNING...WHICH IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM CST THIS AFTERNOON. THE
SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW ADVISORY IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT. A WIND
CHILL ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 AM CST WEDNESDAY.
STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS OF 25 TO 35 MPH WITH OCCASIONAL GUSTS OF
40 TO 45 MPH WILL COMBINE WITH LIGHT TO MODERATE SNOW TO CREATE
AREAS OF BLOWING SNOW WITH FREQUENT VISIBILITY TO NEAR ZERO THROUGH
MID AFTERNOON. IMPROVEMENT IS EXPECTED AFTER 3 PM WITH VISIBILITY
ABOVE A MILE BY SUNSET. TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS WILL GENERALLY
RANGE FROM AROUND AN INCH TO TWO INCHES...WITH LOCALLY HIGHER
AMOUNTS POSSIBLE.
IN ADDITION...FALLING TEMPERATURES THROUGH THE DAY COMBINED WITH
THE STRONG WINDS WILL LEAD TO DANGEROUSLY COLD WIND CHILLS BY
THIS AFTERNOON. WIND CHILLS OF 20 BELOW TO 30 BELOW CAN BE
EXPECTED ACROSS PORTIONS OF NORTHERN IOWA THIS AFTERNOON THROUGH
TONIGHT.
A BLIZZARD WARNING MEANS SEVERE WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE
EXPECTED OR OCCURRING. FALLING AND BLOWING SNOW WITH STRONG WINDS
AND POOR VISIBILITIES ARE LIKELY. THIS WILL LEAD TO WHITEOUT
CONDITIONS...MAKING TRAVEL EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. DO NOT TRAVEL. IF
YOU MUST...HAVE A WINTER SURVIVAL KIT WITH YOU. IF YOU GET
STRANDED...STAY WITH YOUR VEHICLE.
A WIND CHILL ADVISORY MEANS THAT VERY COLD AIR AND STRONG WINDS
WILL COMBINE TO GENERATE LOW WIND CHILLS. THIS WILL RESULT IN
FROST BITE AND LEAD TO HYPOTHERMIA IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.
IF YOU MUST VENTURE OUTDOORS...MAKE SURE YOU WEAR A HAT AND
GLOVES.
