Up to 10 Inches of Snow Expected In Oklahoma

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE NORMAN OK
957 PM CST WED MAR 5 2008

...WINTER STORM TO AFFECT THE REGION THURSDAY AND THURSDAY
NIGHT...

.AN UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM WILL TRACK ACROSS THE REGION
THURSDAY AND THURSDAY NIGHT...RESULTING IN SIGNIFICANT AMOUNTS OF
WINTER PRECIPITATION OVER THE AREA. AS OF MID EVENING WEDNESDAY...
IT APPEARS THAT AREAS SOUTHEAST OF INTERSTATE 44 ARE MUCH MORE LIKELY
TO RECEIVE HEAVY SNOWFALL THAN AREAS NORTHWEST OF I-44. HOWEVER...
ONLY A SLIGHT CHANGE IN THE TRACK OF THE STORM SYSTEM COULD SHIFT
THE AREA OF HEAVIER SNOW FAR ENOUGH NORTH OR SOUTH TO RESULT IN
SIGNIFICANT DIFFERENCES IN SNOWFALL AMOUNTS. SNOW IS EXPECTED TO
INCREASE DURING THE LATE MORNING OR AFTERNOON ON THURSDAY IN MOST
AREAS... AND END FROM THE WEST AND NORTHWEST THURSDAY NIGHT. THE
COMBINATION OF HEAVIER SNOW INTENSITY AND GREATER DURATION MAKES
AREAS FROM NEAR PAULS VALLEY TO ARDMORE... INCLUDING THE
ARBUCKLES... EAST AND NORTHEASTWARD TOWARD ADA AND HOLDENVILLE...
AS THE MOST LIKELY AREAS TO RECEIVE ACCUMULATIONS OVER 4 INCHES.
SOME OF THESE AREAS COULD RECEIVE 6 TO 10 INCHES... WITH LOCALLY
HIGHER AMOUNTS.

...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM THURSDAY TO
6 AM CST FRIDAY...

A WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM THURSDAY TO
6 AM CST FRIDAY FOR PARTS OF CENTRAL... SOUTH CENTRAL AND EAST
CENTRAL OKLAHOMA... MAINLY NEAR AND SOUTHEAST OF INTERSTATE 44.

A MIXTURE OF RAIN...SLEET...AND SNOW IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN IN SOUTH
CENTRAL AND SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA BY MID TO LATE MORNING... AND
IN CENTRAL OKLAHOMA BY EARLY AFTERNOON. SNOW AND SLEET COULD
BEGIN IN CENTRAL OKLAHOMA AS EARLY AS LATE MORNING... BUT HEAVIER
AND MORE STEADY PRECIPITATION IS NOT EXPECTED UNTIL THE
AFTERNOON. MIXED PRECIPITATION IS FORECAST TO CHANGE TO ALL SNOW
BY MID TO LATE AFTERNOON IN CENTRAL OKLAHOMA... AND BY EARLY
EVENING FARTHER SOUTH AND EAST. SNOW MAY BECOME HEAVY AT TIMES
BEFORE TAPERING OFF FROM THE WEST THURSDAY NIGHT. TOTAL SNOW
ACCUMULATIONS OF 4 TO 8 INCHES ARE LIKELY OVER MUCH OF SOUTH
CENTRAL AND EAST CENTRAL OKLAHOMA... WITH TOTALS DECREASING
FARTHER NORTH AND WEST. LOCAL AMOUNTS OF 6 TO 10 INCHES COULD
OCCUR IN A BAND EXTENDING FROM NEAR THE ARBUCKLES EAST
NORTHEASTWARD INTO EASTERN OKLAHOMA.

THESE AMOUNTS OF SNOW HAVE THE ABILITY TO MAKE TRAVEL EXTREMELY
DIFFICULT OR PERHAPS IMPOSSIBLE. POWER OUTAGES MAY ALSO RESULT
DUE TO THE HEAVY WEIGHT OF THE SNOW.
