Hurricane Ike will produce devastation in a number of ways. The most formidable aspect of the storm will be the ocean surge which will inundate coastal communities. Next are powerful winds that will exceed 110 miles per hour on the coast and could gust as high as 100 miles per hour in the city of Houston itself. The high winds will cause massive structural damage throughout southeastern Texas and take down thousands of trees. Furthermore, hundreds of thousands of people can expect to be without power within the next 24 hours.
