** More arctic air on the way
**** Several breezy/windy days ahead
**** Possible Winter Mix Tuesday night
**Next cold front forecast to push through much of the area by just after sunrise, with arctic air lagging behind. Temperatures may not get out of the 30s in northwest Oklahoma, while falling temperatures are expected from late-morning onward in central Oklahoma. Southwest Oklahoma will see falling temperatures into the afternoon. Fortunately there's not much moisture with this one. A few light flurries may occur near the Kansas border Saturday night. The biggest problem will be strong north winds, gusting to near 40 mph at times.Sunday will be cold, with temperatures starting in the 10s. Since only high clouds are expected, we should see 20s in the afternoon. North winds will gradually decrease. As winds go calm Monday morning, the bottom falls out. Northern OK should be in the single digits with near 10 in OKC. Mid 10s in southwest OK. On Monday we climb out of the freezer with 30s in the north, and near 40 in the southwest part of the state thanks to south winds. Tuesday will be warmer (40s-50s) as winds increase out of the south. Next problem maker is a cold front poised to arrive Tuesday night. There is enough cold air behind it to cause a concern for winter mix. Most likely what will happen is rain across eastern OK, a dry area along I-44, then some snow in northwest OK. However it is possible we could get a winter mix as temperatures drop below freezing. There is an upper level storm coming out at the same time which is cause for concern as it passes over at least NW OK if not the whole area. DGEX is slightly stronger and further south with the system compared to GFS.I'm not completely buying us getting above freezing Wednesday. Winds are out of the northwest at 20. GFS MOS has 40s. There looks to be tremendous downsloping Thursday, driving temperaturs up into the 50s during the afternoon. Friday should be near 60 in many areas before another batch of cold air arrives in time for next weekend.
Looking down the road, I'm slightly concerned about another batch of arctic air, or at least a significant cold front, arriving just in time for New Year celebrations.
